ShamashToDOC Converter together with the Shamash.org Kosher Restaurant Database allows PalmPilot owners to carry around Kosher Restaurant lists for any part of the world, in the PalmPilot DOC format. The Shamash Database is located at:

The Shamash database provides a lot of information for each restaurant that it lists, but the ShamashToDOC Converter strips out any unnecessary information from the file, thereby reducing the file size and making it easier to read on the small PalmPilot screen, and then converting it to the PalmPilot DOC format that can be read using any DOC viewer (you can find some good ones at my site - www.PilotYid.com - in the File Viewers Section).
To Use The Converter:
1. Go to
http://www.Shamash.org/kosher
and search the Kosher Restaurant Database.
2. Save the webpage that contains the search results. (Usually with 'File -> Save as...')
3. Open the ShamashToDOC Converter and click on 'Open File To Convert'.
4. Choose the Webpage that you saved in Step 2
5. If you want the converted file to be installed to your PalmPilot automatically, so that it will be transferred at the next HotSync, check the box that says 'Install To Pilot?'. If you want to install it yourself after it is converted, leave the box unchecked.
6. Click on 'Convert File'
7. A window will pop up that asks you what information from Shamash
you would like to include in the DOC file, such as Address or Phone Number.
8. After you have finished selecting the information that you want click the 'Done' button and the conversion will begin.
9. Unless you chose to install the file to your PalmPilot automatically in Step 5 above, then when the conversion is done, you will be asked where you want to save the new DOC file. Save it.
10. You will then be asked what the DOC file should be called when it is viewed in your PalmPilot DOC viewer, pick a name.
11. That's it. You can now install the new DOC file to your Pilot as you do with any other PalmPIlot file (unless you chose to install it automatically in step 5 above, which in that case it will be transferred to your Pilot at the next HotSync).
